1969 Aquasport 19-6 or 19-1?
« on: February 12, 2010, 06:02:30 PM »
I bought this boat a few months ago. As you can see from the picture there is a large stainless steel tubing water skiing mount, and a large 50 gal fuel tank behind the center console. I removed both items and put a cover over it until this blistering winter ends. I have a few questions about the boat.

Can anyone give me some feedback about the boat? I am not sure if it is a 19-6 or 19-1. What model it might be.

If you take notice the center console is right against the front deck is this original? I like the sliding teak storage compartment, but would like to move the center console back about a foot to leave room to walk around it.

What about those spotlights in the front of the bow?

Also, It looks like one of the previous owner welded the support posts in running up the length of the boat.  Any thoughts?

Can a gas tank be mounted under the center console with all electronics and batteries in same compartment?

I have been reading a lot of great information on your website, hopefully someone can help.

Here is the link to my photobucket album.

Nice ride and welcome aboard.  You got yourself a classic there.  It appears to be a 19-1.  I love that hull.  It looks like someone raised the transom 5" to a 25" transom.  The fiberglass looks like it could use a little cleaning.  You can move the console back.  Someone probably did that to make room for the ski setup.  I guess someone added the lights.  Looks okay to me.  But I am a if it ain't broke don't fix it.  I have my tank mounted  under the console with the battery and switches.  I haven't blown up yet.  People recommend against it.  But to each their own.  Just make sure the fuel vent out of the console.  No fumes in the console or near the battery or switches.  Could you take better pictures of the struts running up the boat?  I am curious about those.

Man, a lot of mods were done to that boat    but she's a keeper. IMO the perfect size  Aqua, not to big or small. Take off all of the mods and you'll see a different boat  :thumright:

oh, welcome  :)

Thats defiantly a 19-1.  All the 19-1's had the butterfly style hatches on the front deck, plus were the only models to have a rounded deadrise. Very Cool boat. 8)

That is not the original placement or the original console.  It should defiantly be moved back a foot if not more.

The spotlights were not an original option, but might come in handy if your into flounder giggin.

The gas tank could be mounted under the console, alot people do that.  But it appears you have an access hatch where you could put a new tank under the deck. (Im going to start my tank removal/replacement this weekend) I will post pics.

Sweet boat and welcome aboard :salut:

My post has been up only a few hours and already received great information about my boat. I will post more pictures when the 2 feet of snow we have melts. Yeah, the fiberglass needs some cleaning. I am thinking about doing some minor repairs to the fiberglass, repainting the top and bottom of boat. What would be the best way to prepare the boat for top and bottom paint.
Sand, Patch, Sand some more, prime, sand, prime, paint?

Skoot ,
I look forward to seeing the gas tank replacement.

Thank you

Welcome aboard Tirpak  :!:  :!:
Gull or Osprey that's the question I guess.  The literature Bob posted a link to shows the console setup different for both.  The Gull pic almost looks like a 170 but I guess they weren't made in that year.
Do you want to restore this boat back to original?  The boat has a ton of mods right now.  If you don't intend to completely restore the boat then you have the flexibility of making it a little more "storage friendly". How's the sole - soft? Need to be replaced? If so, I would put a new fuel tank under the sole - mine is under the console (~25 gal) and I have zero storage under there - a great place to put batteries, tab pumps etc.  If I ever need to replace the sole again I will put the tank under the sole and keep the fill/vent hoses on the console (so extend the fill and vent hoses down through the sole) - this will move everything from the transom area forward and clean that area up.
Nice find, BTW.  :thumleft:
