If you haven't already, you may wish to read this.

http://www.yachtsurvey.com/moisture_meters.htm

The paragraph on false positives may shed some light on the readings you are seeing.

Also the idea of location (inside or outside of hull) as to where the readings were taken.

Good luck. :thumright:

On the 2000 Osprey 225 with a 2000 OX66 200hp, with T Top, what may I expect for fuel economy, based on another 350lb added (me and my 10 year old) plus fuel weight?
Also, any info on fuel tank capacity?
Thanks again, those pics ARE TOO COOL!!

Here are your model specs.

Figure a fuel burn rate of 20 gal./hour at WOT so at a comfortable cruise of say 4200 rpm (28-30mph) maybe a burn of 10.5-11 gal./hr about 2.5+ MPG. All of this is speculation based on weight, engine/sea conditions and driver ability.

I average about 2.45 with my old (1991) 200 Yamaha at 4200RPM and a little better at 4000 RPM but not so much as to cruise at that speed. I would bet the newer Yammi motor is better. Hopefully the OX66 drivers will post their findings.

Good luck. :thumright:

You should expect 2-2.5 mpg at cruise or about 10-12 gallons per hour at cruise.

As usual, fitz is spot on here.  I get close to 2.5 at cruise with my OX66 200 on my 205 Osprey.  I would expect a little less with your heavier 225.

OK, WELL, IS IT JUST ME??
I was getting ready to send the entire amount of money to settle this transaction, and just before I did, I used "BOAT HISTORY REPORT.com" and found out that the boat was from Canada, "may or not have been stolen in the past, but we now have clean title", and I just found out that it has bottom paint (I know for a lot of you folks are fine about that, but here in S. Calif., if not kept in the water, it is not to my liking, and increases maintenance costs for me). I was told by the rep this was "standard for a boat of this type, so this is why it was not previously disclosed".
I am quite disjointed by this new "insight", especially the previous history, and or, lack of clarity. I guess that a Canadian boat could be subjected quite a different set of circumstances, especially if it had ever been "five fingered"....
What do you think, folks??
I am having quite the second thoughts now....

Well Ron,
The good news is you don't have to own it. I would never buy a boat or anything else sight unseen so I would never have gotten this far. The bottom paint comment from the broker is nonsense. The issue with bottom paint is that it can hide a ton of issues. I personally would not buy a boat with bottom paint just because it's a given that the likelihood of other water intrusion issues just went up by 2X. I can tell from the beginning that you're not crazy about this deal. If it doesn't feel good, walk away from it. It's your money and there are a ton of people out there that are willing to help you part with it. You need to go see, smell and feel this boat before you send them a dime.

Two excellent responses!! I thank you both, indeed!!
I shall do, exactly, both of these well balanced, fundamentally sound actions. I will weight it out over the weekend, AND drive the five hour, one way, distance and view this boat for myself. After spending the past few days, hours upon hours tracing just how many things bottom paint can "hide", or conceal, also that some boats from hurricane damage can be bought, redirected to Canada, then "resurface" in Calif. for sale by a repossession broker. The response from them, when asked "could this boat have been stolen once in Canada", I was told "well, we do not know, we have the title and it is ready to sell". I am trying to understand why a dealer, who states that they do not fix anything on selling items, who have no idea if the bilge, instrument panel, or wash down work, etc, etc, yet takes the time to "re-paint the bottom paint" themselves, yet they did not take the time to remove the old fuel... Also, NOW I am trying to puzzle together why this boat, according to the rep for the dealer, sat in their possession for OVER one year, and they had not put it up for sale during that time?? I guess that might be a question directed toward the rep, in hopes that I would be given the "truth".
Reminds me of that movie with Jack Nicholson, "You want truth, you can't handle the truth"....
I "dig" the one liner given to me, that, and I summarize, "there are plenty of people out there willing to separate you from your money"....

Ps. what seems to have got the other side of my "gut feeling" on this thing is that the price/value for these boats at a total of about $12,550.00 out the door, delivered, is quite below any competitive boat deal out there, except for one or two of those craigslist deals which come up each month, but if you do not get it within an hour of the posting, some other "rat" gets the "cheese", if you get my drift :titantic1:
Thank you to any and everybody for "babysitting" this subject, and this old fart, I am not worthy, but my 10 year old is....

drama over,
i got kicked down by the bully rep, i just got text that full deposit refunded "sighting Ebay rules", even though Ebay site states that I have until tomorrow to clear it up... I guess they could not handle the heat of answering up to what i thought were valid concerns. The boat is now being sold to the bidder who bid $50.00 below me. ?. ?.  Strange, i think, that coming out there on Monday, myself, personally, to pay in full and view the boat, as i had just texted out this AM would have set this, "deal broken",
in motion, or am i just being a freak ??
This forum may have saved me quite a bit of pain, or maybe i looked "the gift horse in the mouth" a few to many times??
I appreciate, once again, your time, patience, and contributions to all!!

Back in the helm...
I received a text from the dealer and I have been given a chance to buy her, and I am going to buy her, after all.
During the weekend, I did NOTHING, almost, except try to compare the value on this boat, including the Yamaha OX66 200hp,
to other deals of similar quality, here in CA and elsewhere, NOTHING CLOSE.
So, I will keep you all posted.

Talked to dealer, told now that she has NO CF #
I have never heard of that before, a boat without CF #
Any thoughts out there about how this could be possible/acceptible to purchase? What does it imply about past ownership or transfer of title? I am sorry I am asking for quite a bit of babysitting, but this 'no CF #" thing is something I have never heard of before and some answers/replies are worth there weight in gold to me....
Thank you in advance!!
