Aquasport graphics
« on: January 02, 2010, 04:52:32 PM »
I have a yellow 2001 225 Explorer. I wanted to remove the original huge aquasport badging and replace with the classic smaller stainless steel badging.

1. What is the best way to remove the old badging?

2. Would this look stupid- newer boat with older classic badge?

1.  Heat gun and a plastic scraper.

2.  That would be up to you, wouldn't it? 8)

The absolute best way to remove vinyl graphics is with a vinyl graphics eraser tool the you put in a drill motor.  One such example is: http://www.tptools.com/p/957,63_Smart-E ... mover.html   You can ususally get them at any auto body supply shop.  The next best is to peel the graphics off using a plastic scraper.  Heat can help soften the vinyl but I have found it also softens the paint for gel coat underneath as well.  Some goof off or an citrus based adhesive remover helps loosen the edge of the decal and helps with the cleanup.  They will NOT remove the graphics by soaking into them.
