Advice for fixing a crack in fishbox hatch
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:15:52 PM »
Hello Everyone,
I have been reading your posts for quite a few months but this is my first post. First of all thanks to you all; I have learned so much about about Aquasports in a short time. I bought a 2002 225 Explorer in October. One of the fishbox hatches has a good size crack(pics attached I hope). I would appriciate some guidance about how to stop this from getting worse and repair this crack.
thanks in advance
Bob

the only way that I know to fix that is to grind down to solid glass and build it back up with fiberglass, then either paint or gelcoat.I have seen a product on ship shape tv that is a flexible nonskid mold to fix nonskid.good luck

I have the same issue with my 225 explorer But my crack is actually a splitting or peeling of the top layer of the hatch. I will have to get it fixed. I will post pics

I happened to see an ad for the Non-skid mold in a BoatUS magazine this evening.  You can find the mold at MAS Epoxies:

Bob,

This looks like no biggee. If it were my boat, I'd live with the ugly for awhile, chalk it up to a fishing boat. Then when you're tired of looking at it, pull it (hatch cover) flip it over, dig out the rot, and put a heat lamp on it. Then fill the void with epoxy and filler (dried cypress slivers) from the backside.
......
Cheap fix. Spray the backside of the hatch flat black............go Ninja!

Keep us posted on the fix.
