222 FF
« on: September 04, 2009, 04:10:18 PM »
This is a followup to a prior post.  I hope to see this boat soon (1979 FF deep V) looks like new in pictures.  If there are not any soft or weak spots can I expect the hull to be strong for several years?  Also, what kind of ride should I expect in the ocean?  Previous boats include Bertram 20, Blackfin 24, Formula 23, and Boston Whaler 17.  All of these performed as expected.  I have never been on an Aquasport, but I like the lines and room of this boat.

Thanks in advance.

Following C,
First, welcome aboard.
Second, that's a fairly impressive list of boats.
I don't think you can compare the 222 to the Blackfin or the Formula and I never rode in a Bertram but....
The Whaler I have ridden in and it will bounce you around like most 17 footers will and so will the 222. Add to the fact your helm position is forward and it's light.

Strength?
Well if the boat is in good condition I'd say its strong. My hull is 25 years old and I can't find any signs of hull failure. They built them (well most of them anyway) good in Hialeah.

Good luck and if you do get it, post a pic or two.

I owned a 78 FF Deep V and loved it. I sold it a few years ago rather than just repowering it. Boy did I make a big mistake. Can't say about how it would be in the ocean but up in the Great Lakes it was great. It handled some big waves for up here. I do own a 22 FF with the semi V now but sure miss the deep V Good luck I don't think you would be dissapointed.

I have owned a 1979 22FF deepvee since 1990. It's a outboard. Have had the boat on the outside of Vancouver Island B.C. in the Pacific many times. It handles big water very well. Mainly I run it in the San Juan islands in the Pacific N.W. We do a lot of fishing in the winter time and 3' to 4' waves are very common. Just make sure you have trim tabs biggest that will fit the better. This hull design because of the narrower beam and deep vee will tend to list while running. If you can bury the nose it will soften the ride with no pounding. Good luck
