Where can I find some Bow Rails?
« on: July 22, 2009, 11:21:23 AM »
If anybody knows where i can find some Bow Rails (I think they're called that) for my 170 please let me know.  I also need to find the hand rail that goes over the windshield on the center console.  These two things are all that is missing from my 75' 170.  I live in the Houston area...so if anyone knows somewhere close that would be a plus!!

I can get the raw materials and fittings for you.  You would have to bend the tube on site.  If you let me know what all you need and I can check the price from my suppliers. here are a couple of examples.http://www.sea-dog.com/cgi-bin/webdata_pro.pl?_cgifunction=search&_layout=pdfs&pdfs.itemgroup=Rail%20Fittings

What do you bend the tube with? Would an electricians conduit bender work without kinkingthe tube?

The bow rails are a generic part - you can make your own or find one at a marine supply/salvage location and make it fit.  The rail around the console/windshield is more of a custom part, but not unlike those on other center consoles.  Again, you may find one very similar at a salvage/parts shop and be able to adapt it.

Aviator - you may want to check Lanier Marine Liquidators - I'm not a real fan of theirs, but they have had several Aquasports over time and parted some out.  You may find a railing there - and it's local to Cumming, GA!

I was at Lanier marine liquadators this past weekend snooping around.  The only Aquaports that they had was the destroyed 200ccp and a decent 246 family fisherman.

Any chance they would let you have the console railing on that 200CCP?  I don't think anyone is going to buy that boat as-is - they're going to have to part it out...

Maybe you could take the whole console - could it work on your boat?

I hinted to the idea of parting the boat.  It looks like a tree or something crashed onto the port side.  I badge was ok and the other destroyed.  The coffin box is there and the console itself is ok but the rails and windsheild are trashed.  I would be happy to see if the will part it again if there is anything that anyone needs.

I have the bow rail off a 22-2.

It needs new feet but those are easy to come by.

I'm in San Antonio, if you are interested.

Thanks for all of the info.  I didn't know that it was typical to make these fit or bend some your self.  Thanks!

Would they fit my 170 or are they too big?

I couldn't say.  If you'll get some measurements of overall length, width, and between the feet, I could check them against the one I have.  I would guess the 22-2 rail is a little longer overall.  The beam would be adjustable.

All right!  I'll get the measurements and we'll go from there.

Thanks!

You can flex that bow rail to fit your 170, but the feet won't line up with the old ones, but who cares?!?

I just bought and installed a center console rail for my 170.  Was on Ebay for $35!
Measure the width of your console, and then keep searching!  Many of them go for $35 to $75 bucks in Stainless Steel.  I like this one MUCH better than the old aluminum one.

Wow...you really can find anything on ebay.  I don't know why I didn't think of that.  Thanks!
