Knobs for center console plexiglass doors on CCP
« on: June 25, 2009, 08:50:59 AM »
One of my original knobs on one of the plexiglass doors has broken and need to be replaced as well as the other one.  Would I find this kind of thing in the cabinet section of Lowes/Home Depot?  I have checked with several marine places and they don't have anything close.

I would like to go with some kind of magnet setup.  Has anyone had to replace these?  If so, what did you use?

This is one of the knobs on the smoked plexiglass 'doors' on the upper console, right?  It looks like the twin smoked plexiglass doors on the console of your '81 are either the same - or very similar - to those on my '86.

Do you have a picture?  If not, I'll try to post a pic of the hardware on mine later tomorrow.  Depending on how they match up, there's a local source that has amazing inventory I can check.

I found mine at Boater's World/West Marine. I'm not sure if mine is the same - mine has a round "ball and socket" type of connector - the ball side is attached to the door and the socket is attached to the console. It doesn't work very well, next time I will replace it with something different.

Thanks for the response Hardwater & Scott.  Mine is the ball & socket setup.  The round knob is mounted to the plexiglass door and slides into the plastic socket mounted on the teak trim where the door closes.  Never liked the setup anyway.

I checked west marine and could not find one :?   Not quite sure what to use for now :?:

That is the same latch that's on mine.  Here's one source:

http://www.fpmarine.com/Latches%20Locks ... tm#latches

Go to #47 on the latch list for this latch - Perko made - FP Marine part #P1040281:

http://www.fpmarine.com/images-website/P1040281.jpg

$3.75 each.

Here's a direct link to cabinet hardware on Perko's homepage - the ball and socket latch is listed first :

Just looking at them, these latches seem to leave a lot of room for improvement.  At the same time, the originals on our boats have worked for 20+ years.

Thanks Hardwater :thumright: I don't like those knobs but as you said they did last on my boat almost 30 years.  Thanks again :!:

John, that is a special order for me and I could only get it for a few cents cheaper with a 1-2 week turn time.  Probably would be better off to order from the other site, but let me know if there is anything else that you need me to look for.

Thanks for all the help guys :thumright: Looking at those latches, I don't see a knob that would be on the console door to enable you to pull it out
