I am staring my Osprey project and was reading some threads here that have been real helpful. I have the boat stripped down and am getting ready to make the cuts.

1. How hard is it to attach a new rub rail? I would like to remove the old one to repaint but not if it is a major undertaking to attach a new one.

2. I would like to raise my scuppers and raise the deck at the transom where the drains are. However, that would cause a problem with the traugh that runs from the transom to the cc for the control cables. Here is an idea. If I raise the scuppers and trough at the transom, could I keep the trough that runs to the cc but stop it before the transom and put a scupper in to drain out the side of the boat instead of the transom? I want to keep water from collecting in that trough. Of course the other option would be to get rid of the trough by putting new floor there but I don't want to do that. Any ideas?

1.) Rub Rails are a pain in the a$$.  They're heavier than they look and it's difficult to get them on there straight.  Also, after you take the rope/nylon insert out of the middle, it's pretty hard to get it back in there.  But, as long as you're not afraid of some work, it can be done.  Definitely get a strong friend to help.  If you were just removing it to paint the boat, I would just cover it, but if you were replacing it with a new one ( I replaced mine because it was green and ugly ) then go for it.

2.)  I'm a little confused about how you would raise the "deck" just near the transom area.  Wouldn't that require raising the entire floor, including the control tunnel that runs to the console?  Unless you were just planning on making the depth of the self bailing trough a little more shallow, but that would be unneccessary as all you'd have to do to accomplish the same thing would be to raise the scuppers...... ??

Why do you want to raise the floor and the scuppers? When no one is in the boat does it still collect water? Im not sure I understand unless you have a very big motor.

Thanks, I will definitely forego the new rub rail.  The one I have is fine.  If I can find a new white cord it will look new.

Regarding raising the deck.  I explained it wrong.  I would like to just raise the self bailing trough to be flush with the deck and raise the scuppers to that level.  If I raise the scuppers without the trough then there will likely be water sitting in the trough without draining.  However, that leads to a problem with the control tunnel being the lowest point with no drain.  Perhaps I am overthinking it and should just leave it as is.  i just don't like the scuppers being so close to the water line.

Be happy that your scuppers are out of the water, most are partly submerged, especially when people are in the back of the boat.  The ones on my 170 are 1) covered partially by the mounting bracket on the new motor, 2) under water anyway because of the weight of the newer motor, so I keep a plug in them.

Straight A's, can you post some pics regarding the self bailing trough and scuppers to see how their position.

My scuppers are touching the water beacause I put a 115 evinrude on  her. When I am in the boat I have all three plugs in because water will come in. When she is at the dock all plugs are out and she bails. If you get in a bad storm or your casting for bait, pull the plugs while your running and all the water will come out.  You probably know all this but if it was me I would leave it be.
