Now the rigging tube and the hole on top, large enough to stick my whole hand in.

The fuel line and the pink and black wire running to the back.

Now my question is can i cut the ground and splice in new wire, the connection would have to be on top of the tank or replace it all,any suggestions would be great.

Thanks Scott.

I rewired my gauge/sender today. I have one of the Rochester magnetic senders with the additional analog gauge on the tank. One wire went to the "S" on the dash gauge, the other to the ground bus bar at the helm. The green bonding wire went to the aft bus bar.

Interesting pics.  I hate to say it, but AS was kind of chintzy in combining the sender ground with the bonding wire, even though they terminate in the same place.  Gotta save money somewhere, I guess.

Cut out the old ground, splice in a new ground on top of the tank, use heat shrink, and terminate to the aft bus if that's the handiest.  This ground wire really seems to be bothering you.  I know if something bothers me that much, it's OUTA HERE!  Just make sure you have a good ground at the gauge as well.

As far as the old ground you cut?  If you can't trace it to it termination on the other end, cut it back and put some shrink sleeving over the end, then dog-bone it up and tuck it out of sight...

I'm just curious: Why seal the end? It's not actually connected so what could a bare end hurt?

Scott,
Good pics, and get used to the blood on the gel coat (damn, is that my blood?  Must be, I'm the only one on the boat...).  Good idea, just run a new ground and be done with it...

CD, the reason I "dead-end" a ground like that is that I really don't know if it is still attached to a "live" ground bus or not.  If it is, and for some ungodly reason, sometime in the future, it managed to come in contact with a 12V+ live wire, there would be a short. Highly unlikely?  Yes.  Possible?  Yes.  Just a little safety precaution.  Even if it is disconnected at both ends, you never know where some moron (or some BOAT BUILDER!) might have spliced into the middle of it!

Takes a minute or 2 to heat shrink it and dog bone it up, but then you never have to worry about it again... :D
