HP requirements for a 1981 W/A?
« on: April 29, 2009, 12:49:12 AM »
Hello I'm a new member and fan of Aquasports boats with a question.  I'm considering buying a 1981 walk around 200 that has no motor.  The hull and decks are in surprisingly good conditon for a boat of it's age.  It's solid as a rock.  After finding this site I liked what I read about these boats.

I have a stinkin Renken 20' cuddy that is ready for the dump but it has a nice 125HP Force on it that had the powerhead rebuilt a few years back.  Yes I know it's a Force but it runs good and it's what I have.  Will this be enough power for the Aquasport?  I'm not looking for a speed demon, to pull skiers or anything like that.  Just get out to some fishing and diving spots.    Any input from 20' owners with this range HP would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard wingtime  :!:  :!:
So the "walk around" you mention - is it a Family Fish? We have documents in the photo gallery on most older models.
I think it will be a little under powered but then again you're used to being underpowered having the same engine on the Renken which is a cuddy model too.  It is what it is and it's not costing you anything - it just won't be a speed demon

Looks like it and not too shabby at that either.  So it has a little extra weight due to the helm/cabin area, it may not be real quick but it'll get you there and back.  :thumright:

No need to keep this thread going since you started another already.
