looking at an 87 Aquasport Osprey CC 19'6"
« on: February 10, 2009, 03:21:12 PM »
Hello all...I am looking at an 87 Aquasport Osprey CC 19'6".  I like the boat and the price is good.  My only concern is that I do not know much about this make and model.  Does anyone have any experience with this model, any known issues, and is it a dry boat?
Any input is much appreciated!

I own a 1986 200 Osprey.  It's a 19'6".  I love it.  Dry ride, take chop smooth.  Planes at low speeds.  We just put a new to me motor on it.  Next is rewiring and then pressuring the gas tank to see if it really does have a leak.  If it has a leak the it'll be time to look into a new fuel tank.  The boat is very solid over all though.

It's a simple boat without a ton of bells and whistles but thats how I like it.

I have an '87 Osprey 200 CC with a Yamaha four stroke 115.  Like CThomps said, the boat is simple and low maintenance.  I can fix almost anything that goes wrong with it.  It rides well and gets great gas mileage (I sometimes wonder if my gas gauge is working correctly). We use it mainly for inshore fishing but on nice days we will go a few miles offshore.  Like for any older used boat, you want to check the floor, transom, and gas tank before you buy.  We are going to get an estimate on a canvas bow dodger this spring to provide a little more shelter from the weather.

We dont envy those guys at all that go flying by in their YellowFins with triple 250 engines.

Mine's a '87 22-2 Osprey.  Best boat I've ever had.  Simple, easy to work on, well built and great to fish out of.

I recently bought an 86 osprey. I saw it and loved the lines. I bought it with a rebuilt 140 Johnson. It's was well used so its a little rough in places , (cosmetic only)..Iv only been able to take it out 2 times and both times were cloudy, windy days on the gulf and I loved the way it rode. The only time I got spray was going diagonal with the seas. I did notice the motor did not ride very deep and running 3500 rpms with seas behind me wanted to cavitate some. Im sure this is a minor adjustment..Good luck in your search. I see some for sale online but not for long. The previous owner of my boat has regrets about selling....Butch

Hope you enjoy it - I have an 87 19'6" and agree with most of what the others say except for the "dry ride" part. I fondly call mine an Aquaspray.

You guys with 115's on them...how do they run?

We just repowered with a 200hp because it weighed the same as the 150 that was on it before.  I wanted to do a 115 for fuel economy sakes but the deal came up on the 200 first.

Ha!

Mine is also quite wet.  Did the newer 19-6's (osprey 200) have sprayrails?
