Original or Custom
« on: December 09, 2008, 10:17:31 AM »
I have a 79 200ccp that I am wanting to work on but can't decide how to proceed.  I am going back and forth on whether to restore it to original or make mods to fit my liking. (i.e. remove the coffin and make livewell/cooler seat in front of the console and put storage in the floor and many other things)  Can't decide, looking to the group for their opinion.

Other than the addition of my t-top, I have tried to keep mine as original as possible.  I still have my coffin box and have had custom cushions made for it.  I know the coffin box has it's pros & cons but it makes for a good seat and great for storage.

I guess in reality, you should make the boat to suit your needs.  I have done that, but have kept it as original as I can.

Hope this helps :!:

Go custom, definitely.  A lot has changed in the boating world since the 70's, and its mostly for the better

I say go custom but with a good taste and with the same kind of lines of your boat, like all the rebuilds done here that I have seen so far, they all look very original  Aquasport and some of them change stuff like seat, console, ect... but they match the boat

Think about how you're going to use it - now and future use - and go with custom changes based on that.  If it will mostly be used as a fish killer, I can see how the changes you're thinking about make sense.

At this point ours gets used for family, kids and friends more than half the time out - it's definitely fished, too, but not as much.  I agree with jdupree, the coffin box has its pros and cons but it is real useful for storage and seating:

(They all look miserable, don't they?)

Even though yours was a 'gift' boat (how'd you do that :D ), keep in mind resale   .

The CCPs are very versatile hulls - have some fun considering your options.

Thank you to all that has put in their thoughts.  Their are many things that I want to keep original like the all of the teak and the guage cluster and what not.  I will be using the boat mostly for fishing here on Lake Lanier ( when we have water) and when my son gets older to go fishing, skiing, or whatever he wants.  The coffin seems to large in my opinion but yet it is great storage.  Thought that if the there was more storage made available in the floor it would be the best of both worlds.

Hardwater--friend of mine was selling his lake house and never used the boat, it just sat floating in the dock.  I guess I was in the right place at the right time.

Looking for cool ideas and suggestions also.  I have seen many excellent ideas done on the flat backs but not to many on the CCP's.
