Aquasport Sandpiper 222 Question
« on: November 28, 2008, 08:46:30 AM »
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum.

My father has a 1987 250 Express Fisherman.

We recently located a 1988 Sandpiper hull down here in south florida.  The hull has no engine and was last registered in 2007 which leads me to believe it was in use till then.

I am trying to decide if it is worth buying and fixing up.  Along the front hull there is maybe a 12"x1/2" cut in the gelcoat where you can see fiberglass and on the port side there is another one that is about the same size.  Also the deck of the boat seems sturdy but has spidercracks near the sides of the hull.

Since the boat has no engine, I really have no idea how to check the transom except by tapping on it.

Anyone have any suggestions? Comments?

Thanks!

Welocme aboard miamiguy  :!:  :!:

You could take a rubber mallet and bang on the transom and listen for differences.  I guess the other way is to drill exploratory holes - I'd try the mallet first.
Spider cracking is normal stress signs and I wouldn't get excited about that.
Pictures of the fiberglass damage would help us.
