222ccp pictures

I am looking for pics of a 222ccp with the front decks removed/repaired.  i picked one up (1986) and the forward sole is real soft. I was hoping for some insight into what I am getting into before I cut. Thanks

They are quite rare and I doubt many of them are being ripped apart right now. Check Gonefission's reply to your first thread regarding this and he says you should open up the deck plates near the splashwell and coffin, then you will be able to poke around a bit and see a little. I suggest getting a digital camera, sticking it down under there, and take a couple pictures with the flash, hopefully you'll get a general idea

My 84 is "springy" also.
I have a hatch there with a good size storage area underneath. The stringers don't add support to the deck in this area and the wood rots with age. I replaced the hatch (with a new one) and added "Git Rot" in that area with the intention of repair. That was back in 96 and no one has fell through yet.

That is quite normal for the CCP.  As stated, there is no foam or anything to support the deck directly under the coffin box to the bow.  It is just a big void.  Most CCP'S like mine, will have some "flex" from the front of the coffin box to the bow.

As gonefission has mentioned, the main problem up front is where the hatch is in front of the box.  If it is not sealed good, it will get water into the wood and eventually rot the deck.  As long as it doesn't feel like its going to cave in, I would just make sure the hatch has a good seal and leave it alone.

This boat does not have any forward hatch, just a 4" inspection under the coffin.  I may open her up anyway to add storage, possibly giving me the ability to loose the coffin. I thought about leaving her, but its against my nature! I must tinker. The fuel tank is out, the console off, the transom is wet, but sound.  Thinking that through now.  Not soft and not damp everywhere, but not perfect.  The stringers are perfect.  May just cap the transom and transom cap with plate and call it good.  Now its off to get the news about a fuel tank.

If the transom is wet or even damp, it will just get worse.  Those microbes that turn pretty marine plywood into compost don't need much moisture to do their thing.  I thought, like you, that the transom on my 22-2 was solid.  But, only about 20% of the wood was actually untouched by rot.  Think about this, how much more pressure does an engine apply to the transom compared to a person?  Even the world's strongest redneck might be missled.   :)

Thanks for the reply mad dog. I havn't made a decision yet, but was thinking of basically covering the transom to outboard of the stringer positions with plate, wrapping over the transom and finishing off inside the well with angle for stiffness.  This is a pretty common fix here and seems to hold up well..  Remember , this transom has zero flex, with me jerking on the end of a v-6, and then jumping on it.  I feel like my plan would buy me time on the transom.  Want to see how much I like the boat before I go nuts.  Let me know what you think.  All input is good input!

I have been thinking along the same lines when it comes to the dead space under the fish box.  When I first bought the boat, the box was out.  I thought I should keep things original, but I'd toss that coffin if I could just see a good plan take shape to use the space below deck and forward the console for fish.  Combine this with some seating in front of the console and I would do it.  It is a real PITA to walk around that box!  A straight up question, has anyone done this on the CCP?

I've seen CCPs with fish boxes mounted in the deck where the coffin would be, and seating added in front of the console.  Aquasport offered a forward gas tank as an option that used the same space.

yea I myself actually may get two 12 gallon gas tanks, strap them down in the back, and then remove the stock tank. Would give access to soooo much more storage space (like the boat already needs it, hah!) and a convenient place to store rods and a livewell wouild be amazing
