mystery tank
« on: October 05, 2008, 12:13:14 PM »
Hey guys I just got a 86 270xf and I am still figuring the thing out since there is very little literature on them. There is an inspection port in the floor of the cabin that looks to be to some kind of a holding tank. I am not sure what it would be for. The rest of the tanks are in the back under the deck. Any ideas on what it could be or how to access its contents. I haven't found any other fill locations.

Shower/Head? Probably the pump-out is outboard somewhere.

It does have a shower in the head. It is certainly possible.

Now, let's think about this.  You have a fresh water system, therefore you have a water tank, fill, and vent.  Now, with a holding tank, you'll have a "fill" and a vent. You have one of two options.  Holding tank with dockside pumpout, or holding tank with dockside pumpout and overboard discharge.  That means a macerator pump thrown in the mix.

My guess is there is a waste "fill" on the deck somewhere.  "fill" is an oxymoron when it comes to waste.  What, are you going to put sh%t INTO the boat?  I always get a chuckle over that.  Describe your head system to us.  Electric head w/holding tank?  Vacu-flush, fed by fresh water?  Take pics, and upload via Photobucket or picsaweb.  We'll figure this out.

I have to get back to you in the pictures but I know it doesn't have an electric head. It just has a crank handle on the side of it. You are correct on the waste fill spout. It is using what ever the factory setup was in 86 for the 270 and 290.

Well, unfortunately, it seems the holding tank is buried to where you can't get it out unless you do major surgery.  This boat was built before I started working for Wellcraft/Aquasport, so I can't reilly comment on the design, but I would take her down to a marina that has a pump-out station, and get that tank cleaned out.
