transom drain?
« on: October 13, 2008, 03:53:15 PM »
I have noticed a roughly 50/50 on people putting a drain hole on thier transoms when they rebuild/enclose thier transoms. I know its another hole where water can find its way in, but what are people's thoughts/reasons as to why or why not to do a drain hole on the transom?
Thanks
Chris

As long as the hole is done properly it can't hurt. I suggest holes at least for cockpit drains because you dont want that area filling up. The bilge drain is your choice but I would install one just so in the winter or when you take the boat out of the water, you can just unscrew the plug and excess water can pour out as your going up the ramp when taking her out for the season

I think you'd have to drill holes in a rebuilt transom if you wanted it to continue to be self-bailing... wouldn't you??
