1982 286xf specs

I have a 1982 286xf, I'm looking for manuals, specs, props, and tranny ratios,  or anything for this model.  Also do any of you guys know why they only made these models for eight years?

My uncle has one of these, his is the outboard version, well actually, it was the OMC Sea Drive version, which he retrofitted, through great aggravation to a bracket with more conventional outboards.  It has a generator and, AC.  I believe they also made them in an I/O configuration.

I'm not sure why they were cut from the lineup, so I'll speculate.  They were dropped around the time of the Genmar accquisition.  I also think there was alot of overlap between the 286 and, 290 so that might have been another reason.  What's replaced it has been more of a walk-around.  Walk arounds seem to have really taken off at that point in time.  Getting the bow on a 286 is a bit of a challenge.  

I don't know if I answered any questions for you or, not but I'll ask my uncle if he's got any literature laying around for his boat.

hey thanks, i've done alot of searching on the internet, and there is not much info out there.The reason i'm asking. is at 4400 rpm my boat will only top out @ 22-23kts, I'm thinking either I have the wrong props or wrong  transmission ratio, I just repaint the bottom. Any thoughts out there on this.

You know, I hate to tell you this, but that's one heavy boat with a serious deep vee.  I don't know that I'd call my uncle's a rocketship.  I'll ask what kind of numbers my uncle gets out of his with 225 mercs.  What horsepower are your engines?

I just replaced both engines with 260 mercrusiers they both have less 50 hrs on them,  I called a boat dealer the other day and they sent me copy of buc guide for this model and said it should top out at 34kt and crusie at 28kt, the boat is great out of the hole and my cruising rpm 3200-3400 is only 13-15kts, just want to get up to about 20 to 24kts cruising. I'm not looking to be like one of thoughs idiots cruising 40kts plus in the icw waking every one out .

Here's the skinny, my uncle is getting close to 40 MPH top end out of his.  He thinks you should be getting 5k rpm out of your motors, your prop sounds like it's way too tall.  

Might be time to go back to the drawing board on those props.  If you upped the horsepower on your re-power that might explain why you're having prop issues.  Different engines get torque at different RPM's.

I think your right. I'm going to dive down there when i get a chance and see what have for props. What is the way to go with this, have the props adjusted or replace them?

You're getting outside my range of knowledge on inboard props.  I know on outboard props they can be tweaked an inch either way.
