Time for some engine work...
« on: October 16, 2008, 06:10:39 PM »
So winter comes along, my motor has made it through yet another season (specs are in my signature) so I figure it is time to do any small repairs then winterize it.

It runs well but I am not afraid to do some tweaking to the engine. It already looks nice and sleek but I am wondering if there is any way I could reduce vibrations and shaking. I know that factually, old motors shake around, but is there anything I can do to reduce that?

Also, it is somewhat loud, any way I can quiet the old thing down a bit? I dont mind how it sounds at high RPMs, but it seems somewhat loud whilst idling. ( I have set it to Idle around 1,000 RPM to ensure easier start ups and a cleaner sounding Idle)

And yes I know this can all be remedied by buying a new motor, but this one still works so might as well make the best of it!

Noise reduction

To reduce noise at idle, try this, or something like it - the link below may not work, but copy it into your browser and it should be OK:

You can also get a product called Dynamat at Best Buy and some other places, but it's a lot more expensive.

Hope this helps - good luck!

Beautiful! Im liking the looks of this Foam lining. There is a measley thin layer of old worn out foam in there now and this looks much nicer, thicker, and higher quality. Once again, you are a walking boat encyclopedia GF. Thanks!
