Whats the advantage of torsion axle's over leafs?
« on: April 02, 2008, 05:08:28 PM »
Well as you saw in my pics my galvinized tandem trailer is pretty BAD(RUSTY).... My buddy has a boat load of used trailers and happens to have a aluminum tandem magicloader with torsion axle's( it needs lots of TLC but frame and axles are nice), I've got some Mopar stuff he wants, which I don't need, so the price is GREAT for me, I don't mind hanging fenders and lights/wiring.  He also has some ready to go used aluminum tandem trailers but they are leaf spring type..  I've never had a torsion axle trailer(always leafs), so would it be in my best interest to nab the torsion axle one? Thanks, Greg

IMHO torsions are way better.  Easier to maintain and not so volatile in a complete break-down situation.  Plus, quieter (if that makes sense).  Pretty sure these are the standard now.

I had a torsion axle on my 170's trailer for 30 years (the same one) and finally the spindles got so thin that I had to replace it out of fear that they'd snap off.  They ride great.
I replaced that axle with a rolls axle - guaranteed forever. Too bad I'm not
