New Aquasport owner, with a few questions...
« on: April 24, 2008, 09:27:11 AM »
Hey folks, I am new to the board.  Just got my Aquasport.  She is a 1974 222 CC, with a 150 Yamaha.  I like you board and it seems to have a lot of great information.  This is my second boat as the first was a bit older and alot simpler...  I have a few quesitons, any help would be greatly appreciated...

Does anyone have a copy of the owners manual?

I have buffed the hull out with rubbing compund and then waxed it came out nice and shiney, however there are a few clear scuffs that did not come out in the buffing. I am assuming to wet sand with 1500 or 1600 to take the scuffs out? I just don't want to jack the finish up.

The boat has a 60 gallon gas tank, when I open the hatch on the floor I smell a little bit of a gas smell, not bad but it is there. What do you all think?

There are two big air vents on the bow that have a 2 inch or so black tubing that runs under the deck, well one of them does and the other is missing... Are they suppose to be connected to anything or do just lay below the deck?

Also, I have a hole on the right side of the hull, it is suppose to be there. I would think it would be for the bilge pump or for the fish box to drain. Issue is I can not find the bilge pump...

Thanks in advance,
Big Boy

BB,
Welcome aboard.
I'll answer the last question.
The "hole" drains the "coffin" (fish box) that resides in front of the console.
Post some pics, so we can see what you got.

Looking at some of the old brochures, it appears that your model didn't have the "coffin" I refered to above but did have a box or two forward. Run a little water in the fish box/cooler and see if it dains out that side hole.

I'm sure the experts know but I'll guess that the foward vents are for the "under floor" ventilation but I'm not sure. :?

Welcome aboard.  Nice to have another Texan on the board...  I have a '75 22-2 I am rebuilding in San Antonio.

Have you tried Ebay?

Does your AS still have the tank access hatch?  Its about 25" x 72" screw fastened panel under the console.  If so you need to remove it and inspect the tank completely.  A boat this age has a good chance the tank has crevace corrosion.  I have a new tank going back into mine for the same reason.

If those are the on the cap at the bow about 18" apart they are forced air vent cowls that ventalate the bilge area.  Near the stern on the port side is a louvered vent where the air exits the bilge taking those gas fumes with it.  The flex tubing is necessary to carry the air from the cowls to the bulge.  They do not connect to anything its just duct work.

Is this front or back?  Front would be a drain from the fish box in the casting deck that is gravity fed.  Near the stearn would be bilge drain and needs a pump attached.  There should be a bilge access hatch near the transom.

Thanks for the answers.

I am continue to keep an eye on ebay for an owners manual.

The drain hole was for the fish box.

I am going to install new tubing for the vent cowls, looks easy since it does not attach to anything.

There is not a hatch for a bilge pump.  When I take off the gas tank cover I should be able to see if there was a bilge pump in there, if not then I guess time to put another hatch in.

Thanks again,
Big Boy

The Aquasport owner's manuals really did not provide much in the way of technical information.  They are hard to find, but you might be disappointed with one if you found one.  No electrical wiring diagrams or anything like that.

Keep working at posting your pictures -  you will find someone on this forum can probably answer your questions.  A good number of our members have taken their boats apart, so they know what's underneath and how Aquasports are put together.

So keep asking and good luck!
