fixing to overtake refit on 1972 17'6"
« on: February 22, 2008, 06:36:16 PM »
hi everyone im new to this site and to owning an aquasport but have been in the boating community since i was a child anyways thanks for this site and all the help and suport it's phenomenal .  on the refit side of things i bought my 17'6" from a friend who was going to rebuild it but bought another boat instead and it is completely gutted . i am going to use nauticore throughout the whole stringer and deck , but am having a few questions about the best place to mount the battery and fuel tank i am thinking inside the casting deck as to level out the weight of putting a 1995 evinrude 115 on the back and me using under the console to hold dive tanks does this sound like a good idea?

Welcome aboard CF  8)
Since you'll be building the stringer system from scratch I think putting the fuel tank under the sole makes sense.  If I ever re-do mine, that's where I'll put it. The batteries could go in the console or if in the casting deck, that will free up a lot of room in the console.  I don't know if putting tanks under the console makes sense though since they'll be a pain to get out. Look at Mike's rebuild and you'll see where he put his tanks - great idea.
As for the boat sitting back too much with a 115 on it - I think it is ok the way mine sits with the 115 on it. It planes out nice and level with no tabs. The 115 is about 320 lbs - I wouldn't go with anything heavier.
