Trolling Motor for 175

I have a 1990 Aquasport 175 and i am looking to put a trolling motor on it.  I have found a used 55lb Minn Kota RT for a pretty decent deal but i want to make sure i get enough power.  I know its always good to go bigger but would the 55 be sufficiant?  Any input is appreciated.

A 55 Riptide will pull that boat, but not very well or very long.  Is it 12 or 24 volts?  Any current or (heaven forbid) wind and current and you will get frustrated quickly.  All depends on use.  But, generally I think most would agree that's a little small.

I think you will find the 55RT works pretty well on a 175.  I have a 65 Riptide Autopilot on my 222CCP and am happy with it.  Mine is 24 volt, but I think the 55 is 12 volt - you will want to think about a separate deep-cycle battery.  Also, are you looking at bow mount?  Remember you need some serious cable (#6 or #4) to get that current from the battery to the motor.

I have a 50 lb thrust MinnKota and like undertow said, in any wind, you're not making headway.  It's a 12V model.  When it wears out I'll replace it with a 24V system.  I think your year Osprey has the tank under the sole so you could mount the 2 batteries under the console.  Mine doesn't have that flexibility unless I redo her again.
