Winterizing is coming soon for the 222.
« on: September 19, 2007, 03:29:43 PM »
Yes, it will very soon be time for me to put the 222 away for another winter.  I did get to go out 4-5 times on her this past season and we did go thorough the 70 gallons of fuel we put in at the beginning of the season, actually 30 gallons, but we went through it and put another 20 gallons in and about a month ago I put in enough Stabil and Quickleen so it should be well circulated in the motor.

Here lies her next stage in life.  My sister bought a house on a saltwater pond next to where we live so she will now have a dock.  My Dad is going to either give or let her use the boat as they have no more extra money to buy a boat so that will be nice, no more having 2 boats tied up to the dock like they were this past season.  I'll pull the boat, flush it, scrub the bottom, put some oil in the cylinders and change the L/U fluid, I did the impeller last season, even though it was just fine so that should be fine, then cover it up and open up all the inspection ports and the bilge plug and let it rest for the winter.

Getting the new boat and going all the places I went in the 222, I will miss the 222 but really like the new boat so much better that there is no way I'll be going back.  I fear that my brother in law will not take care of the 222 like I did but with a newish/2006 motor, it should be fine for many years to come.  I guess there really isn't much to keep up besides keeping it clean so I'll just have to let it go and visit her whenever I can.   So goes another season here.

While the 222 will be put away, the new boat will stay out as long as I can't take the cold up here anymore.  I know you lucky bastids down in FL and all those other mild-winter spots have it good, but after reading my boat insurance policy that just wants the boat on land/stored on the trailer from Nov. 1-Apr.1, then that is not a problem, I'll be going out all winter now, I need big Cod and Haddock and Pollock this fall.

yup - the gulf water is already cooler than that now - close to perfect though.

Well, I'm off to Quebec now where the water is NOT that warm.

I'll winterize mine by putting in an extra jug of Stabil and blowing the neighbors pecan leaves out of it when they are done falling.

Well, the 222 is put away for another season.  The motor has the DFI oil in it and the lower unit oil is new too.  Here are some pics;

The boat hardly got used this season, poor girl.  The bottom had a nice layer of slime on it but came clean with some scrubbing.  She is covered up for her winters rest.  Maybe by next May or June she will be back in the water.
