Wood or composite?
« on: September 27, 2007, 12:57:58 PM »
I have a 1996 Osprey 200.  Fantastic boat.  Does anyone know if this boat has a composite material in the transom or were they still making them with wood at that time.  Everywhere else I've looked on the boat (floor, gunwales, etc.) seems to have wood.

Hey Kroy,

I contacted Aquasport customer service and they told me that all wood had been eliminated by 1999.  I put that in another post here titled all wood eliminated.  Don't know if "some" wood was eliminated prior to 1999.  I do know at some point they went to an  aggrigate transom. Don't know for sure about your boat but I'm afraid that it probably still has wood in the transom.  Is it cracking or do you have some other problem or is it just for information.  You could find out for sure by contacting AS Customer Service.  They can be reached through their website.

Aquasport was one of, if not the first to go mostly composite.
On my '71 I have a wooden transom, a wooden sole and wooden backers on hatches and inside the console.  All else is glass, to include stringers and liner sides.
On my '92 I have a wooden transom and MAY have a wooden sole, don't think so though.  All else is glass.
