Aquasport 176 question

Hi all,

I’ve been enjoying the site the last few days. Lots of good posts here!

I am looking at a late 70’s 17 foot cuddy for sale. I guess this is called Family Faisherman? The BIA plate refers to it as a 176 O/B FF. Any info on maximum horsepower (the number is worn off) or hull weight?

She has a mid-90’s OMC 90 horse VRO on it which I would probably replace. I can’t seem to find a weight spec for those motors anywhere, and wouldn’t want to go any heavier. The Yamaha 2-stroke 90 is the lightest one still avalable by far, with the Tohatsu/Nissan TLDI and E-Tec being next lightest. Any suggestions welsomed!

I remember posting a 17ft FF for sale not too long ago here - is that the one you're looking at?  I haven't seen many of those boats over the years - so maybe she's a rare breed, so to speak.

The 17 foot Family Fisherman is a rare bird - only produced for a few years in the 70s.  The 196 FF, 222 FF, and 246 FF versions remained in production for quite a while, but the 170 FF was just a bit small to try to combine a cuddy and enough useful space into 17 feet of boat length.

It's also interesting that the 196 FF was built on the 196 semi-V (Osprey) boat hull, whereas the 222 FF and the 246 FF were built on the deep-V (CCP) hulls.

Rick, the one I'm looking at is the same model as the one you posted. And the same year (1979)

was the 176 FF produced on the 17 Osprey platform as well? Has the hull changed over the years? Any info on maximum HP or hull weight for those?

:P  i have a 19-6 for sale if you did not pull the trigger on the 17.  The weight difference is only about two hundred pounds.  See my post in the classifieds
