Is this a 1970's 19-6 Aquasport??
« on: May 21, 2007, 01:14:01 PM »
Hey - I am looking to pick up a 1970's vintage 19-6 Aquasport.  I saw this the other day and was wondering if it was a true "aquasport"?  The old boat I grew up on did not have the chine on the gunal and this is missing the little vent and "aquasport 19-6" marlings on the rear toptides.

Thoughts?

I have a 1970 17" and there is a chine on it. It looks exactly like an Aquasport. Good Luck!

yeah - this one does not have the overhanging deck in the bow like the 19-6 I remember.  It appears to have a more finished interior - Like there is a double hull up front.

Yup, looks like an Aquasport to me - not sure of the year. The mid to late 60's Aquasports had the cap but no liner.  My 1971 170 has a liner in it, as does this one. As for the chine, I think they all did - is where the side meets the bottom.

It's definitely an Aquasport, it looks just like mine.  However, it may not be a 70s era 19-6.  I'm not sure what year the gunnels changed to look like that.  Earlier ones were flat across from the rubrail.

any one have some pics on how they have modified one of these?

I was hoiping to find a 19-6 with 3 piece construction - with the Cap and Deck separated, but having a hard time finding one.  Figured I could go with this one and enjoy the ride and modify it sometime later...

the guy I am buying this from says it is a 1975, but I think it is a new version.  Does this model have the same hull shape and ride? with just the new decking/insert set-up? or did they change the hull shape too in these later models?

As far as I know the hull always stayed the same even until recent models.

The hull shape is the same.  The interior is a little nicer but the top of the gunnels is uglier, IMO.  If I ever refurbish mine, I will widen and flatten the tops of the gunnels at rubrail height.

Thanks for the info - and, as it happens, I bought it.

checked out the serial number - it is a 1977, but in great condition and a great price.  Would much rather have the older 3 piece set-up without the raised rail, but all the AS I saw around here were pretty beat-up.  Maybe in a few years when the kids are a bit older and I can take on a bigger project.

Can't wait to get it in the water and fire up that Suzuki EFI 150 - thing is going to fly...
