I have done a search about this. an it seems that a 115 will work. but to what degree will it work I want a boat that will be fun to play in as well as to be rather smooth an easy on fuel. but no pig in the water. my 19-6 will be restored to near stock a fishing machine as well a family sunday rider up an down the river an bay fishing boat
some input please. I have 115.

In my opinion, a 115 is probably perfect for the 19-6. I have a 150 and very, very rarely use anywhere close to full power. I also think it's a little tail heavy.
If I repowered right now, I would try to find a lightweight and strong 115/130 hp 4 cylinder.
But I haven't ridden on a boat powered like that so take what I say with a grain of salt.

No Scott
thats what I'm looking for. I bought a 17' mako last week. I wanted the trailer. It also has a 115 yamaha on it. The hull is a 8 out of 10. so I was going to sale the motor an hull. But now I beleave it will be sold as a very good hull only. with another of my trailers.
But thanks for your thoughts

I have a 100hp 2-stroke Johnson that is plenty of power on a 19-6. With the right prop it pops on a plane and runs a good 34 mph even loaded. The hull is not made for speed so it takes lots of extra horsepower to get much over 35 out of it.

When I bought my 1978 19'6" it came with a 175 Mariner. I have had the boat for 4 years now, and it handles great. I looked at the Coast Gaurd plate, and it says that's the boat can handle up to 180 hp. 8) My boat drafts about 10' , and I do have to stand on the bow from time to time to get over some of those pesky sandbars.

well considering I've never even stood in 19-6 much less ever seen one in person. I realy think that I will have to make up my mind when I get it home. I have 20hp, 70hp. 115hp. 135hp, 140hp an a 175hp to choose from. right now I can't wait to get it here.

I have a 115 4 stroke on my 19-6 and I top out at 30.5 knts with half a tank of fuel and 2 adults on a calm day. We pull two tubes and mono ski behind the boat without any trouble at all. I have about 110 hours on the motor.

I'm getting ready to rebuild the yamaha 115. an that will be the motor that will be left on it till I get a four stroke. thanks for all the imput.
Now that I have it home. Wow what a wonderfull boat. I can't wait to get started on it. I need to finish my sons Mako 19 an then my mako 17 to sell.
He was sorta saying something about wanting a 19-6 or a 222 now. but that will be on him instead of dad.
