i was wondering about all you guys that have a 170 model. i was wondering how well you liked the boat and if you thought it would be good for fishing inlets and a couple miles offshores for some stripers? because i bought my 1977 20ft. proline and didnt know how bad condition it was in until i got it, i started to lay the floor when i fell throught the bilge. :( so i sold it for 1000. wanted some thing in better condition.

I haven't rode in mine yet. But my 19-6 will most likely surpass all my needs an desires. which are basicaly what you said your looking for. I did a lot of reseach before I bought mine. I have 2 makos a 19' an a 17' as well as a 24' gulf craft for running after Tuna. But the boat that I will keep in my old age will be my 19-6. from what I have learned on this site an a few others. These Aquasports are pretty much the best all around work horse boat. they are more than able to run super shollow an still shot off shore. I don't think with out any dought you'll go wrong with a 17'. I know were a 19-6 is in your part of the world is thow.

A 19 foot Aquasport is a very seaworthy boat. My Dad and Grandfather used to take my 19-1 out of Indian River Inlet. Check out this link.

A 19 footer going out of one of the 5 worst Inlets on the Atlantic Coast is nothing to be sneezed at!

Go for it!! A 170 is a great boat. Not an offshore wagon, but I´ve been offshore a couple of times and caught my share of dolphin and tuna. It has a low freeboard at the stern tough.
It is easy to trailer, launch and maintain. Great one man boat.

I've had my 170 for 19 years now and have used it somewhat deep (10 miles) but mostly inland. As Miquel said, the older ones have low freeboard. I think the newer ones have been designed to have more. My boat floats in about 10" of water, sometimes I need to stand on the casting deck to "flatten" the boat to cross some really shallow stuff. It's a great 2-person boat, 3 is max to not be in each other's way and still be comfortable. I launch and retrieve by myself all the time - A very easy boat to handle. If you want to have more people on board, I'd step up to at least a 196 or 200 Osprey. If you want deep freeboard and a deeper V, go with a CCP, which wasn't made in a 170 model as far as I know.

170's are great boats... easy to handle launching and perfect for two or three fishing.

I liked my 170 when I had it. It takes chop pretty well for a modified V. I agree with Rick, if you want more folks to be able to ride you need to step up to something bigger. My main complaint with the 170's is the narrow beam. If you have 2 adults go to the same side of the boat she really lists. I usually fished with 3 people on board and that was all I could stand.
I chose to move to a 20' CCP for the high freeboard and the deep V. I love the fact it has no casting deck and is a real walk around. Has loads of room for a 20 footer.

aiezzi, nice job on the house! If you can do that quality of work, fixing up a 170 project boat would be a stroll in the park.

thanks jimct its been alot of hard work but im almost finished so then i can go and find the aquasport for me. i really love 170 just because of their size and because the chances of more than 3 people on the boat are slim because usually its just me and my dad that go out on his 1989 2665 robalo with twin merc 200 real gas hogs
