All kiddin' aside.  Just wanted to say publicly-thanks for stopping by yesterday.  I really appreciate your time and logical advice.  Makes sense to just use the old girl a few more seasons before I tear into it unless something drastic shows up sooner.  So, is it sitting too low in the water and is the foam waterlogged- don't know and don't care right now.  By the way, after you left I took the boat out in the bay just to blow out the motors a little.  Everything was fine and the two foot chop just rolls under the boat.  Saw a bunch of pelicans diving in the water and cast a spoon in that direction.  As soon as I closed the bail and started to reel I already had a fish on.  Put up a good fight but when it got in close to the boat it started digging for the bottom.  Yep, a very large sail cat.  Oh well, it was nice to get anything on the other end of the line after such a long winter.  Spring is near.  Water temp was from 68 in the bay to 70 in my canal.

Those are very good eating (better than fresh water cats), if you don't mind the slime. LOL

I know that a number of people like to eat sail cats and the fish books all say that the meat is excellent, but I can't get past all of the slime.  Too many other fish out there that I like better.  The sharks really like them though.  If I know that you want them, I'll save 'em for ya.

Don't be too hasty 'bout how a fish looks on the outside.  To my lights, best eating fish out of L. I. Sound is Blackfish.  They are UGLY and slimy BUT they are heaven to eat.  Maybe that's why the good Lord made 'em so ugly...

Don't put them in your cooler, or on a stringer.  Put them in a burlap bag, and hang the bag in the water.  The rough fabric will 'de-slime' them in a few minuits.  Then you can put them in your cooler.  

Sure makes for a nasty bag, though.

Boy, talk about opening a can of worms...  Sorry I mentioned it!  That bag thing remins me about the way that you fix fresh water Carp.  Use a cedar board.  Split the carp in half and place it on the cedar board.  The board must be large enough to place carrots, potatoes, and any other vegetables of your choice around the outside of the fish.  Then you cook for 3 hours at 350 degrees, throw the fish away, and eat the board.

Sorry, eating sailcats is one life experience I'll just have to miss.
