Title & registration question
« on: March 21, 2007, 10:09:31 PM »
The 22 2 I'm restoring belonged and is registered under my fathers name.   He passed away 13 years ago and I've been storing the boat ever since.  I have no idea where the title or registration is.  The florida registration numbers are still on the boat and I still live in Florida.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to start in order to get a title and registration for this under my name now?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
-Mike

Go in and explain the situation to the people who handle registrations there.  All they may need is the HIN, registration numbers and some proof of who you are.

Does it have one of those floating key chains that you can take apart and put the registration in?

I'd say that the trouble you will have getiing your boat titled is directly

related to the boats age.  I had a hell of a time getting mine titled in

my name.  In 1970 there was no HIN's and the DMV was not computerized

I had the title from the original owner in my hand and the DMV had no

record of the boat. Flat out - No Record.  Took awhile of jumpin thru some

hoops but finally got it done.  I'd give them a call first and see what they

can advise.  Be prepared for some frustration. No one is going to accuse

the DMV of being the most efficiently run agency around.  GOOD LUCK!

I got the title and registration and it was pretty easy.

All I had to do was provide death certs for both parents, a Will and my ID. They looked up the FL numbers that were on the boat and that was it. $39 dollars and I had the title and registration in my name.

Surprisingly easy.
