Anybody got a early 80's 20' XF?
« on: January 26, 2007, 01:11:34 PM »
Found one of these boats for sale, (thanks jdupree   ) at a local dealer..Dealer sent pix and wants $2300 obo, 1982 boat, no trailer and the boat hasn't been run in 3 years.  I asked her if it was able to have a compression test done and if there was any soft spots etc..but no reply back yet.  I wanted to post some pix. to get an idea of what everyone thought.  The motor is an 87 175 Johnson and being that old and not running at the moment, I was figuring on acting like it didn't have one, and if it did run, sell it and get a newer 225 ocean runner???  Any thoughts would be welcome  :D     Floors look good and boat transom pix look solid with no cracks..don't know about the gas tank but since there's no console, its easily accessable  8)

Trying to upload pix to the board but my picture thing online says that I can't.?? Any suggestions?  Thanks again

Just found out that the steering cable is frozen but boat was supposedly winterized 3 years ago, no word on stabalizer in the tank, carbs drained etc.. said it would cost me 100 bucks to put the boat on my trailer..but I really want to know if anyone has any suggestions on what to look for with the pics. shown..I know its a lot but really like the hull..Thanks again.

I think that boat will ride just like your 200 CCP.  Based on what I have seen, will be the same boat that you just sold but with a walk-around cabin.  I would not worry about the steering and winterization.  As long as the deck & transom are solid you can go from there.  Did they let you know about the deck and transom :?: Worst case you could be looking at a gas tank.  How long a drive to check it out :?: I would make the trip if she tells me the deck & transon are solid

She told me deck and transom are sold and no soft spots she knows of, guess she was on it to take the pics.     Not too worried about the tank, should be a bit easier to get to than the ccp.  As for the motor, she was supposed to get me compression #'s and get back to me but until I know what they are, I'm just gonna consider the boat like there's no motor  :?:   Would like to repower with a mid-late 90's 225 oceanrunner     and go from there.    Its about a 4 hour drive up depending on traffic, which isn't bad but driving around Long Island with an extended cab truck and trailer may make for a fun experience

Sounds good :) I would look at it like you said with "no motor" and if it runs a great bonus :!: Did you get a trailer :?: When do you plan on making the trip :?: Bring a digital camera with you for pictures :) Let us know how it looks.

Well I've found one for $500 thats a load rite, roller type kinda like the one you have..and am selling the t-top that went with the boat and may entertain offers from some guys up here about a swap..would like to have a dual axle with brakes becuse the hull of the xf is about 500 lbs heavier by itself so that would put me in the range of needing one..but the venture you have worked great and pulled nice so who knows.. trying to the the trailer this weekend in NJ and then make an offer on the XF..may be purchased sometime in Feb. if all goes right :!:

A single axle trailer like the one you sold me should do fine.  Unless I read the specs wrong, the XF only weighs 100Lbs more than the CCP.  That is according to NADA which most of the time is right on the factory weight.  It says that the 200 CCP weighs 1900 which is correct and the 200 XF weighs 2000.  I will double check that weight for you and let you know tonight.

Hope you have a good trip and e-mail me plenty of pictures when you get back

I own a 1983 20 Walkaround like the one pictured.  I have owned it since new and still fish it regularly.  The 20' is rated up to 200HP, so I don't think insurance would cover you, if you put on the 225.  Ours is on it's third engine.  It's origional was a Johnson 175, second, an Evinrude 175 and currently a Johnson 150.  It's current 150 is faster and more economical than the previous guzzlers.  Be sure to replace all gas lines, current ethanol gas eats the old lines.
Good luck on a great boat!
