Hi Don,
I'm new here and this is my first post.I own a '79 Aquasport 22.2 Family Fish and I think it's a great boat.Mine is an outboard version w/an enclosed transom well. The boat does handle the chop well and feels like a bigger boat than a 22'.It also has alot of fishing room depending on the layout.During the season I take it 5 to 7 miles out and have done 15 mile runs.My boat tends to lean a bit with a broad side wind, although I use a canvas top and side curtains. The I/O version your considering should ride better and be more stable than the O/B because of the weight being in and lower in the hull,so to speak.
The main thing I would be concerned with is the hull condition and the transom. Also, inspect the below deck aluminum fuel tank and fuel lines/vent for excessive corrosion, deteoration. The best way to do this is removing the large cover over the tank(deck),if possible. There were two versions of the 22.2.A deep vee and a modified vee.The I/O version weighs approx. 2400 lbs.Overall these are pretty rugged boats with a solid hull and hull design.
Other than that you need to look out for the guy at the gas dock when you fill the 60 gal. tank
