Replacing Stern Light Base

So I'm really new to this whole boat ownership thing and need a good starting place for replacing the stern light base and stern light for my '99 Explorer 225.  Looking for any recommendations on how to make this replacement as easy and painless as possible in terms of parts.

Aquasport seems to use Perko for alot of there hardware. Hope this helps.
