215 Osprey Anchor chain stuck beneath locker
« on: March 16, 2021, 07:20:31 PM »
Saturday was kind of a bummer as I had the whole day planned out. Launch early, pick up some family and head to the beach. Plan was to anchor offshore and paddle to the beach on the Airhead Mega tube. Got to the beach. Went to cast the bow anchor. Long story short, the chain somehow slipped out of the locker and is now stuck in the hull between the large forward storage compartment and the anchor locker. I spent about an hour trying to get it loose. Finally gave up after sustaining a 1" gash on my palm. I tied off both ends of the chain to prevent it from falling deeper into the hull. I have to deal with it before this Saturday because I've got another outing planned with family. Anyone ever experience this? If so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks in advance.

Bummer. Maybe a short pry bar will allow you to pry apart the liner from the hull enough to free the chain?

Well, got it out, but not before cutting two 4x4 inch holes in the storage compartment...only to find that it was totally pointless because there's another bottom below the storage compartment :oops2:

So now I have to repair two holes that I didn't need to cut.

I got it out by pulling the port side cup holder in the bow, throwing the end of chain towards it. Then reaching in and grabbing the chain. Then I put a screw driver through the chain and yanked for a bit until it came loose. Then I pulled it back through into the anchor locker.

Wow!

The key is... what are you doing to prevent a rerun? :ScrChin:

For now I used the lanyard that holds the chain when its installed in the pulpit through the cap into the anchor locker and secured the chain.
