245 explorer Transom
« on: January 08, 2021, 10:06:30 AM »
:tb: Was getting my 245 explorer ready for new 250HP Suzuki on order and discovered my transom looks like it was butchered. There's no rot but I'd like to see what it's supposed to look like if anyone has any transom pics. I'd love to see how to handle this.

What year is your 245?  I just hung an F250 Yammie on the back of my 245 Explorer.  No problems.  Why is the cap off your transom?  I don't see why that would have needed to come off?

Depending on the year of your Explorer, you should have some sort of composite transom with wood at the top.

Thank you for replying, it's a 94 I had a plastic cap on it that was all cracked. I removed the cap and there was a layer of 5200 which I removed then it was what you see in picture. Was it cut down like it is from the factory? Pics I've seen look like it should be straight across.

Being a '94 model, you might have an all wood transom.  What did the bolts look like when they were removed?  Not sure what year they went to the composite material.  The transom should have that downward notch for single engines.  If it was designed for twins it would be straight across.

Thanks that makes sense. the wood is not the whole transom but all the bolts were through wood. its roughly 4ft x 2ft
