Aquasport 222 - WA - Express Fisherman Deck Question
« on: August 28, 2020, 05:29:41 PM »
Hello,
I am new to this board and am interested in AquaSports.  Currently looking at a 1989 222 - WA - Express Fisherman.  I like the boat, hull, transom and motor seemed solid but the floor/deck had a significant concaved or crown to it lengthwise and some stress cracks around the deck.  I did not notice any soft spots but it was enough to probably make it a deal killer.  Is a concaved/crowned deck a normal feature?

Thank you in advance!

Without going into semantics, is it possible to see a photo of what you're describing?
My CCP had a slight crown IIRC but nothing that would jump out at you. It is the same hull as you are looking at but with a different cap.

Good luck. :thumright:

Thanks for the quick response...  Working on pictures.  They probably wont show as bad as it feels but you will see some of the stress cracks.  He did mention a gas tank modification was done.  Its almost like he may have over foamed it in or something...

Well these old eyes are having trouble seeing it but I'll throw out a thought.

The CCPs had foam flotation between the stringers. Since this is the same hull, I'm thinking the XFs might have had it too (my 91 WAC does not). Over the years the foam has been known to absorb water and if this is the case, it could be causing the "bulge" you see in the deck. Again, I don't know if that's the case with this hull.

Water enters the foam via poorly sealed deck penetrations. Still, that doesn't appear to be the case in the pic you have posted.

Are the helm pedestal seats mounted directly to the deck?

Water intrusion could be the problem and makes sense.  The seats are mounted directly to the deck.  There are some pretty good sized stress cracks on the deck that are not visible in the pictures.

The bulge is quite large.  I am gonna pass on this one...

Thank you all for the help!
