new top mount binnacle
« on: June 16, 2020, 04:30:26 PM »
Hi everyone, thanks for allowing me to join this informative group. I have a 1995 200 aquasport with a 130 johnson that I have owned for 20 years so i think it must be the original top mount binnacle. unfortunately it has been sitting in the weather all these years and it is toast. I have been trying to find a new binnacle but am confused. it appears the new binnacles are for 1996 or newer but you can buy an adapter to make it work for older boats. my binnacle has a large red rubber connection terminal that plugs into the harness back to the motor, and I dont see it on the pictures of the new binnacles. does anyone know of a binnacle that will work? I would hope to find one that has the same features as the one I have, key switch, lanyard safety, trim and tilt switch, nuetral safety switch. thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome aboard John !!

There is really not much complexity to a binnacle shifter that you can't lube up and figure out electrically. Before you toss it, open it up and we can help you figure it out.

update I went to a marine salvage yard and found an older binnacle that works great.
