All, to make a long story short I removed my lower unit from my 2000 Johnson Ocean pro 200 after finding milky lower end oil. I've never had this boat in the water yet and purchased it not knowing this. I found a few issues and replaced prop seals, shift rod seals, driveshaft seals and so on... seems to hold pressure now. While I had it off, I threw in a water pump kit (Sierra Marine 18-3392). I threw the LU back on, and fired it up to find my water pressure around 3psi-5psi at a slight rev. Previously, I was running
7 psi at idle and over 15 at a rev. I also noted alot of water coming out from the seam between the LU and motor. That being said, still a strong stream coming from the tell tale.
I removed the LU and checked the gaskets on the pump. I do not like the flimsy gasket of the housing, but it seems to be ok. Re-installed with same results. Does anyone have any suggestions? The seals for the tube are installed and I am 100% the tube entered its slot on install the second time. All I can think of is that the WP housing gasket is not sealed correctly, I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of this kit and the housing seemed to be higher on one side...
