20' aquasport striper

Have a question for you guys in the know,looking at a late 80's or early 90's 20' striper.Has a good for and transom,but that is all for $1500.What I'm wondering is it worth rigging it with a motor,controls and at least a galv. trailer for that money.Thanks for any info.

The 196/200 is the perfect sized boat - still small enough to handle by yourself yet big enough to take a few of the family or friends out and not be in each others way.

A Striper is just an Osprey with some doodads added. Below is circa 1992



As for rigging, that is more dependent on your budget. Along with what you listed, I would add a new fuel tank as well.

I did forget to ad they said they did put a new fuel tank in it,just wondering if it worth another $3-4k to fix up

So 1500 withy a new fuel tank? Right?  It sounds like a good deal to me.  By comparison, I paid 2600 for my 1979 CCP.  I sold the motor and seating for 600 leaving me 2000 into it.  You can maybe find a hull for less, but no telling how long it will take or what issues you'll find.  If you can riggings it and make it useable for 3-4K you'll have a useable boat for far less than new or even late model used. 

On the other hand most people find they underestimate cost and time.  I did a stringers up rebuild with new everything, but I'm crazy.

Agreed.
I sold the original motor off my 1991 WAC and then turned around and replaced it with a new motor. A sizable investment for such an old hull but for me and my use, WAY cheaper than another boat/hull. Was it worth it? To many, absolutely not but to me, hell yes.

Keep in mind that a 1990 stripper is still 30 years old - so she's not exactly a spring chicken!  (.)(.) 

But it all depends on maintenance and how well she has been treated.  Some 30+ year olds look like they are in their 20s.     But people are usually surprised when I tell them my CCP is a 40 year old.   

Like Bob, I repowered my 1980 22-2CCP with a new Merc when the old one died after 30 years of service - never questioned it - I know what I've got, the bugs are worked out, the wiring has been re-done, and the tank is new.  And I don't have $80K invested! 

All being said - $1500 seems like a good deal for the hull - especially with a new tank.
