Moving all around light on 170
« on: March 19, 2019, 01:59:16 AM »
Has anyone moved the all around light from the helm area to the stern on a 170 Osprey?  I had a previous boat with the all around white light mounted on the windshield and it blinded you when it was on.  Seems this set up will too.

Of course, it can be done, but remember that the all around light must be a meter above the red/green bow lights/side lights.  The stern light will still mess with your night vision because it will light your deck and everything thing else.

My preference is to go for a longer pole and leave it on the console.  You can even add a shield to the mast to shade the light from hitting you or your boat.

I put one on my 20 foot Hydraort May years ago.  As long as your light is well above your line of sight it is quite effective.  As a matter of fact, I relocated the all around light from the stern to the console on that one.   I wanted nothing to interfere with my ability to walk a fish around the boat.

I removed the all around light from my 170.  It was horrible location for it.  Taller would have been OK with the top down.  Top up.... useless.  Running a wire to the stern for a mount was too much work.  So I just bought a battery powered LED one that I mounted on some PVC.  I keep in a locker when not in use.  When I need it I just stick it in a rod holder.  Easy, cheap, no new holes in boat, more room on the top of the console.
