86 22-2 ccp
« on: January 07, 2019, 10:02:17 AM »
I recently bought an 1986 222ccp. I want to add some aluminum rails for rod holders and downriggers.  The ones i ordered are 60 lond and 4 in wide. Planning on putting them on each gunwale from transom forwards. Can i remove the caps to install them and add support to the bottom of the caps for stability?  They look to be removable.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance .

The gunnel caps  on each side toward the stern are removable, but they also hold the rod holders in place.

I’d use 3M UV 4000.  It’s a great sealer with some adhesive properties, but not so much you can’t get it apart later.  Since your downriggers will put some some stress on the covering boards, I suggest using through bolts with fender washers everywhere you can get to the back side.

Sounds good. As for the fender washers, im goimg a step further and i am going to put an aluminum plate that will run the full length of the cisco track system i purchased. And i will orders some the 3m sealant you reccomended. Thanks!
