Hi,

I purchased my first Aquasport, a 1999 215 DC, late last fall :D.  Since then I've been lurking around the forums reading and learning. I've purchased a Garmin 740s to upgrade the electronics and I am going to be installing a B60 thru-hull transducer.But the one thing I can't find anything out about is the hull construction. I know that some earlier boats have cored hulls and at some point they are non-cored. Before I drill the wrong size hole, can someone answer the hull construction question?

I just put a B60 in my 98 Osprey a week ago.  Mine was NOT cored.  I would bet yours is not either.  I am sure Bob will come by and put this to rest.  See the below thread, hope it helps.  Feel free to PM or post here or at the sister site if you have any ?s.  I''ll be happy to help any way I can. 

PS- Is a two person job, at least at the end when it gets to the tightening part. Good Luck.

Though it was produced in 1991, my hull was not cored either. It was however produced at the same plant as your hull and BT's.

Just a thought.

I can't say I have ever seen a Hialeah hull that was cored and the same for the Genmars but SB is the authority on those.

He's drilled enough holes to know for sure but as stated, we definitely know of two Gens that are solid.

Yep, my thinking too. They were cored on the deck, hatches, bulkheads, etc.....but not on the running surface. The hulls were solid glass across the line...consistent layup schedule per each model.

No Genmar, or for that matter, Hialeah hulls were cored.  Cored hull bottoms are quite the rarity, although I have seen 1...yes, 1.  And the coring was so full of water...well, it took a few days to stop weeping.

Aquasport hulls, Sarasota or Hialeah, are solid glass.  Where some people get confused is where a hull may have a stringer grid or liner that is bonded to the hull bottom...with Plexus or some other methacrylate adhesive.  This is not "coring".  Although I don't know the ability of a shoot-through ducer to deal with "adhesive", I would remove it before installing a P69 or other model shoot-through.

The B60 t/hull ducer?  No prob as you are going through the entire sandwich of construction.  But one thing you want to be certain of.  The deadrise of the inner liner is the same as the hull bottom, or else the backing nut wont sit flush when tightened down. Do a test fit first, before applying all that wonderful 5200... :thumright:  :thumright:

As good as 5200 is, if the ducer ever has to be removed---grab the sawsall. They make another sealant that works just as well but is easier to work with.
