'76 22-2 inboard strut
« on: November 06, 2016, 05:08:11 PM »
Anybody have an idea of where I could find a replacement strut and possibly a rudder ? The previous owner had replaced and left 5" of shaft showing between the strut and prop.

Strut is not a custom Aquasport part - it's a standard part.   Check on the strut to see if you can find the ID of the manufacturer.  Another option is to check at marine salvage/surplus stores.  Hope this helps - good luck!

This is where I run into issues. From what I can tell, the previous owner had replaced the rudder, shaft, and strut, leaving a large gap between the prop and bearing. From images I have dug up it looks like the original was a skeg strut but finding one with the proper dimensions has been problematic at best.

I don't think a 5" gap is a big issue.  A strut position is dictated by shaft angles etc.  you can't just slide it forward or back since the will place the shaft at a different angle than the angle built into the strut.  A longer strut or a spacer is the only way to get it further back.  I'd be even a 1" longer strut would end up having to be placed more than 5" further aft.

Interesting, I was told there should be no more than 1/2 the prop shaft diameter in distance between the prop and shaft strut. Unless the previous owner installed a longer shaft with a bigger prop ? Anybody know the factory prop dimensions ?
