Technical Name of Outer Hull Feature

Hey guys.  What's the technical term used for the pronounced rail mounted to the outer hull of these two boats, located along where the water line would be ?

Spray rail. I owned the hull that's in the picture it's an extrmely wet boat even with those. Not sure if they're worth the effort.

I'm not an expert but those spray rails look like they are way too high. They are usually mounted just above the chine.

Spray rail, huh.  Thought there was a more technical name, guess not.  Thank you.  So you owned a Hanson.  Saw this hull for the first time last weekend at the boat ramp. Definitely turned my head. Good looking boat.  Didn't expect to hear you say its a wet boat with its high gunnels. 

So this spray rail, which i recon is supposed to direct spray downwards, actually directs spray up and over?  I'm also curious to know its draft. Advertised as being a shallow draft.  Made from composite i could see the truth in that.

I purchased mine in 2013 to charter out of. It's a super simple boat drafts nothing and will run with low horsepower. The only downside is they're totally flat in the back, with an extremely deep entry and stuff in turns and rough water. Doesn't really matter the conditions your going to get soaked. I had it for a year and sold it.

Disappointing to hear. It's a dam good looking hull design.  After seeing the hull for first time I called my father to see if he had heard of hanson boats.  He had.  Ironically he heard the same thing, but not from an owner of a hanson.  But since you have, pretty much confirms the rumor of being a wet boat.

Btw, is hanson boats associated with trevco boats?  The 2 seem to be linked together on the web.

Yeah it's the same hull and builder, it's changed names quite a few times.

Gotcha.  Not a good indication as to the competency of the builder.  Appreciate all the info.

Trevor is a good dude. His boats are extremely affordable but not something you can beat the crap out of and expect it to hold up

To solve that design flaw they would have to start over with a plug and a new mold. Not an easy task (or cheap). The boats do look nice though. Too bad.

All the more reason to be impressed with the hull durability and design of the 60s & 70s AS.  Many of these models like mine were built with wood, foam, and fiberglass with technology of that era.  To this day these boats are sought after for their renowned hull integrity.  Flash forward to present day when boats are built with 100% composite materials like the Hanson boat, making them lighter and theoretically stronger.  Yet many of these present day built boats do not hold up to the AS.  Quite impressive if you think about it.
