Cutting the Floor

I want to cut the floor back about 18" to get in there to inspect the stringers, touch up the glass on the inside transom, etc.  What is the best way to do this?

I used a circular saw with a carbide tip framing blade. Cut through both layers of glass and the core no problem. Easy to set the depth so you don't cut into the stringers, but it does kick up a lot of dust.

So, when replacing it, can I just butter/screw a batten board around the perimeter of the unsupported edge, butter/screw the old piece back in, sand a bevel into both sides, fill the gap with thickened epoxy, and lay a couple strips of CSM to fill?  Looks like I'll also need to rebuild most of the drainage trough as some hacked it up trying to make room for the engine bolts.

That's how I would do it. Since you're only replacing a section that is the best way to go. When I replace the floor on mine I'll leave a lip all the way around and build on top of that.  You probably already know this, but once the epoxy sets you should take the screws out and fill the holes. Ideally no wood is left exposed anywhere. Also mat is better with polyester resin; cloth is better with the epoxy.
