little info please
« on: December 18, 2016, 08:58:58 AM »
Just bought a 1999 aquasport 205 has a 225 Mercury Mariner on the back, was wanting a little info from anyone about how seaworthy the boat is?Seems like a great sturdee boat and runs great just don't want to get caught up in something that I will regret .I live by Daytona Beach so we'll be fishing out ofPonce Inlet and also out of Cape Canaveral. And also if anyone knows the fuel captivity on the boat would be appreciated.

98 model year. Doubt there were any changes. Looks like fuel capacity is 75 gals.

20' boat. You have to use common sense. 3' or less not a problem for a seasoned operator. 4'-6', I myself would stay home. Inlets can ruin a day on much bigger boats when conditions are right. I wouldn't worry about hull strength.

The hull will handle more than you can. I've unintentionally had my 245 airborne.... the hull didn't even flinch on landing... my passengers and I was a different story.... fishing on tye hook in 3'+ rollers is no fun. You need to step WAY up in hull size for that to not be an issue.

It's interesting to see that the 205 in Seabob's post has trim tabs.  My 1998 205 has the same Eurotransom, but it is equipped with a swing down swim ladder which would get in the way of trim tabs.  I have wondered if adding a swim platform and trim tabs would improve the ride.  I suspect it would in certain conditions.

I would agree with all that is stated above on the boat's limitations.

First, you are not the first member to broach this 205 hull subject.

Second, note that "Seabob" and "Capt Bob" are two different members. No big deal but one is tall and knows a lot about Genmar era hulls having worked at the plant and the other is just another pretty face. Still SB is no longer associated with this Forum while CB still hangs around.

Trim tabs seem to work well under most applications. I would guess they would help your hull. A quick review of the 2000 model year catalog for the 205 list both trim tabs and dive ladder as options and the swing down ladder as standard. You'll note that in the linked thread above, CLM mentions he has both so...

I know Bennett makes reduced sized actuators to accompany both tabs and ladders/platforms and ol' SB made mention of the Lenco models so I'd bet you could wind up with something that will work.

Good luck. :thumright:
