79 FF 176

Newbee here.
Just picked up a 79 FF 176 boat and trailer for free. No motor.
It needed some TLC but it cleaned up real nice.
Previous owner had started the transom replacement but never finished it.
Other than that it seems like an awesome boat.
I have a Johnson 88SPL that I plan to put in it for now.
I will be back here looking for advice on fiberglassing the transom in.
Very happy with it for free.

A very learned man once told me, "Sometimes free is more expensive".

Anyways, you came to the right place.  These guys know a thing or two about old Aquas and fiberglass.  Good luck and have fun!

Hi Stormtracker. I see this thread was started 2 years ago and has had only one reply. Where is everyone? Well I just picked up a 1979 176ff myself. I payed a bit more than you. $1,000. This is the boat I want and I have no regrets. I look forward to the restoration and hope things go well. I will be pulling the motor 90hp Johnson this weekend. I will soon know the truth of my transom condition. The cap is cracked but the tap test sounds good. If I have to do a transom pour I will be holding my breath as I dig out the wood between the fiberglass skins.

As a couple of years have gone buy, how is your boat working out. I hope it is running strong and taking care of you on the water.

Best of luck!

Stormtracker hasn't been on the site since a week after he posted this topic.

maybe Stormtracker went down with the ship. Hope he's ok. Got to respect small craft warnings.
