Raise Center Console Steering
«

Looking to raise the steering wheel about 2-3" on my 175 Osprey.
I'm 6'-5", so I can't reach the wheel without being hunched over lol
I came across these shaft extensions (see attached), but it looks like they only work for wheels that mount with screws.
My wheel attaches directly to the shaft that extends from the helm.
Any way to make the wheel higher, without having to raise the whole helm/cable assembly?
Thanks,
MK

have you tried doing a google search for different "depth/offsets" of the actual steering wheel? might be an easy solution for you. that and a turning knob on the wheel could help some maybe.

Thanks for the recommendation, love2fish, however I've already factored a "suicide knob" into the mix.
Did some research on different wheels and helm pods, but nothing panned out.

Have you considered raising the console? Easy way would be to use Starboard or something similar to male a shim. An inch or two would be easy to get. If you wanted to try some glass work, you could get more.

I considered cutting a piece of starboard to follow the profile of the console, and then installing blocking below to create a toe kick of sorts to achieve the desired height.
However, there would be a bit of an expense to that, and I may just be better off buying the shaft adapter/extension and a new steering wheel that fits that assembly.
Thanks for the suggestion tho!

I am contemplating raising my console using the pvc that is used now for exterior trim. My complicating factor is having to cut back the T top connection or also raise the top

Why not take your steering wheel to a good fabricator; explain what your problem is, and say: " cut/bend/extend these spokes so the wheel is 2-4 inches higher from the hub"...would probably take him an hour to cut the old spokes out and weld in new spokes at a greater angle so the wheel stands higher.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone...
Was hoping there would be some sort of an extension I could add to the existing helm shaft to raise the wheel, while keeping my existing parts.
As that doesn't seem possible, it will be more cost effective/time efficient for me to purchase a new steering wheel that doesn't use the center locking nut, and get a shaft extension/adapter.
On that note...If anyone is looking for an original Aquasport steering wheel, I'll have one for sale.
