Waterline help 19-6

Guys I recently acquired a 1979 196cc. The boat is already flipped with the bottom facing up. I want to paint it now. All of the old paint has been removed and the waterline markings are gone. Is there any way that someone with the same boat could give me some dimensions on the where the bottom paint starts and stops at the bow and stern? Maybe just a simple measurement from the rub rail down.

That's gonna be a tough one.  A lot of factors affect how the boat will sit in the water...weight of motor, location and number of batteries, etc., not to mention degree of waterlogged foam.  You may be better off waiting till you float it so that you get an accurate indication.

The foam is dry. I am just looking for a baseline. Motor is a df140

You can use the scupper holes on the transom as a starting point.  You can see here in this pic of the scuppers on my 170 the waterline runs right thru the middle of the scupper with the boot stripes above it.  From there you can follow around the hull using the chine as a guide.

Are you painting anti fouling paint on the bottom?
If not you could do what I did - use epoxy white paint on the bottom and up the sides about 8" in the back and tapering toward the bow well above where I thought the boat will sit. I went up the transom about a foot from the lowest point. I sanded and buffed the bottom and then sprayed urethane paint on the sides from the cap all the way to the bottom.
Now I don't have to worry about a waterline as I have epoxy well above where it will sit. See my rebuild for more details.

You can see the build up of the bottom paint up the side through the primer on the sides in this pic - you can still see the build up after paint too.

I was actually thinking about epoxy. I was looking at the Interlux VC but it only comes in white. I wonder if it can be tinted to be a light grey.
