Check Engine indicator
« on: September 10, 2015, 12:56:50 PM »
I've got a 2000 Osprey 175 with a 2000 Johnson 90, and one of the console gauges has several indicators lights in it, such as High Temp, Low Oil, and Check Engine. I know what High Temp and Low Oil are for of course, but what would cause the Check Engine indicator to illuminate? Mine isn't illuminated, but I've never had one of these indicators on any of my other boats and I was just curious.

Thanks

OMC System Check gauge.

If I remember correctly, "check engine" indicates a fuel restriction of some kind.
Either supply or pump.

Edit: Gleaned from the Continuous Wave Forum..

The System Check shows what is causing the alarm. It provides a separate alarm indicator for:

NO OIL = there is an oil delivery problem. You can continue to run the engine as-is at less than 1500 RPM. You can also mix oil with your fuel to continue to run the engine until the problem is resolved.

WATER TEMP = your outboard is overheating.

CHECK ENGINE = fuel supply to the engine is restricted;

LOW OIL = oil in the reservoir tank is at the reserve (1/4-tank) level.
